A bit of an oxymoron but hopefully we can get away with it!

My father, whose PhD was in the preservation of kidneys for transplant, always talked about the importance of drinking when we were young. Drinking plenty of fluid throughout the day helps kidneys to function properly and flushes toxins out of your body. It is recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, but that can include herbal teas, juices, etc. When you're ill, have been exercising or it's hot then obviously your intake should increase. I try to drink a glass of room temperature water when I wake up (add freshly squeezed lemon juice to it to alkalize the body and create an unfavourable environment for cancer to grow). Half an hour or so later I make a big cup of nettle tea (it's a great liver cleanser and full of iron) or mint and thyme tea while I am giving the children their breakfast. We may make a smoothie together which is a great way to get fussy children to eat vegetables! Later on I'll usually make a big pot of Japanese sencha green tea which my husband and I will drink throughout the morning. I absolutely love green tea, which is low in caffeine, but still gives a nice kick, is reputed to be anti-cancer and different varieties and blends can be used throughout the day depending on your mood. This week we will be sharing some lovely drinks recipes with you to help keep you hydrated.
