Lemons are part of the Citrus genus and although they are a key ingredient in cooking, our focus today is their uses around the house, thanks to their mild disinfectant, bleaching and cleaning properties.

Here are a few useful tricks:
1. Blend a lemon, water and drop or two of washing up liquid to get rid of the tide marks from your blender jug
2. Rub your hands with half a lemon to banish odours after preparing fish, garlic or onion, etc.
3. Remove stubborn stains and odours from chopping boards by rubbing them with half a lemon
4. Clean and deodorize your microwave by boiling water and two half lemons in a microwave friendly bowl or jug. Any stubborn caked on food can then be wiped off easily
5. Make a furniture polish with vegetable oil and lemon juice to keep your wood clean and dust free
6. Use a lemon to clean copperware or to remove rust stains on cutlery
